I’m home, but I ain’t thrilled about it.

It’s not that I don’t love my home. I do. I’m the biggest homebody I know. I like my own bed and the fact that the wifi works automatically. I like my own shower, and the settings on the tv. I like my curtains. I like my shoe closet.

But I left behind people I love. If I could have put them in a suitcase and brought them back with me I’d me in Nirvana right now.

Perfect wifi Nirvana.

When you travel you learn stuff about yourself that maybe you didn’t know before. I learned that if I skip breakfast in favor of sightseeing, I get super hangry. I learned that I cannot seem to stop myself from pronouncing French words in Spanish. I learned that when Fayez flashes his dimples at me I get a little weak in the knees. I learned that when I’m far away from the south I feel a little homesick and miss hearing our accents.

I saw two beautiful cities, New York and Montreal, drove through the Catskills and Adirondacks, and ate a real croissant. I got to say “merci” and “bonjour” and go to market just like Belle on Beauty and the Beast, except I didn’t dance around because I can be classy when I really want to.

I met Fayez’s family. They were a wonderful, friendly, warm, incredibly welcoming group of people. I cannot say enough good things about them. We dressed up and went to a wedding. We danced. We ate. We danced some more.

I just keep looking at these pictures. These were some of the best experiences of my life. I almost can’t believe they happened. Lately I’ve been in a “pinch me” state of life. At first I was a bit wary of it. It all seemed too much, too good. But then I realized that after years of bad, sad and depressing… I’m just gonna spread out my arms and grab all the wonderful happiness I can find.  I’m not going to close myself off or feel undeserving. I’m going to embrace it.

But now it’s back to reality. I’m home now. My apartment needs a good cleaning. It’s rainy and gray and gloomy and my man is far away.

But this video is silly and ridiculous and fun and it helps. Enjoy…
